Q&A for Becoming an Egg Donor

Q: What criteria does ADONIS use to select egg donor candidates?

A: ADONIS selects candidates based on FDA regulations, ASRM recommendations, and guidelines, as well as based on the experience with IVF clinics’ donor criteria. Generally, candidates who smoke, use drugs, or have a family history of mental illness, genetic disorders, etc. are not accepted. However, the final determination of eligibility is made by the IP’s IVF clinic.

Q: Who determines the final eligibility of an egg donor?

A: The IP’s IVF clinic determines the final eligibility for an egg donor. They conduct all necessary medical and genetic testing and screenings, as well as a personal interview to gather the donor’s family history and assess risks.

Q: What is involved in the genetic screening for egg donors?

A: Genetic screening includes genetic counseling and potentially more extensive testing. The IVF clinic decides the actual tests and conducts a genetic consult, reviewing the donor’s profile, genetic questionnaire, and family history. The cost of a genetic consult is paid by the intended parents.

Q: What does the psychological screening process entail?

A: Psychological screening includes assessments like the PAI or MMPI, conducted by a licensed mental health professional. This professional evaluates the donor’s psychological suitability, understanding of the donation process, and commitment level. The results are submitted to IP’s IVF clinic, which makes the final determination of eligibility.

Q: What is involved in the medical screening process for egg donors?

A: The medical screening includes reviewing the donor’s medical history, conducting interviews, physical examination, ultrasounds, tests for infectious and sexually transmitted diseases; drug and nicotine screening; blood tests to check hormones levels, etc . The IVF clinic or IP’s monitoring physician conducts these tests, following specific protocols to ensure the donor is fit for the egg donation process.

Q: What legal documents are required for egg donation?

A: Both donors and intended parents must have separate legal representation. A legal contract, covering compensation, legal obligations, donor conduct, and future communication or contact, must be finalized before the donor begins medications. This contract ensures all parties agree on terms and responsibilities.

Q: How are funds managed for an egg donation cycle?

A: Funds for the entire egg donation cycle, including retrieval, travel, and compensation, are placed in a trust account before the donor begins injectable medications. This protects the identities of all parties and ensures prompt payment of invoices.
